We build the software your business runs on.

Horizontal Solutions is a small UK software consultancy. We build web applications, internal tools, integrations and Power BI reporting for businesses that have outgrown spreadsheets and email.

What we do

Services

You deal directly with the people writing the code. We take on a few projects at a time and see each one through, from the first conversation to running in production.

Custom software
Web applications, internal tools and APIs built around the way your business already works, not the other way round. Usually this replaces a spreadsheet, a shared inbox or a process that lives in one person's head.
Integration and automation
Joining up the systems you already pay for so data moves between them without someone re-keying it. Accounts packages, CRMs, job management tools, site systems.
Power BI reporting
Reports and dashboards built on your real data, with the modelling done properly so the numbers are the same wherever you look at them.
How we work

Small team, short feedback loops

Most projects start with a conversation about what the problem actually is, which is not always what the brief says. From there we write a short proposal with a scope, a cost and the assumptions behind both.

We put a working version in front of you early and release updates from then on, so you are reacting to real software rather than a document. It also means the first version you see will be rough around the edges. That is deliberate.

Everything we build is handed over with the source code and documentation. You own it, and you are not tied to us to keep it running, though most clients do stay in touch for support and the next thing.

Cleve Hill Solar Park: construction logistics

Cleve Hill is a large solar park on the north Kent coast, reached by narrow rural roads. The planning consent came with a Traffic Management Plan that limited how construction traffic could move, and the developer had to show the local community it was keeping to it.

We built the logistics system that managed and recorded every delivery against those conditions.

  • Around 40 deliveries a day were logged, each with its route, timing and vehicle details
  • Delivery movements were limited to 20 mph. Any vehicle over that was flagged and reported to the site marshals
  • On the one-way stretch, vehicles waiting to leave were held automatically while a delivery was travelling in the other direction

Our own product

Parod

Board meetings, risk registers and performance reporting in one place. We built it because we kept seeing the same governance work scattered across spreadsheets and email chains. It is in testing now, ahead of a private beta.
